When I was a teenager, I’ve always dreamed of wearing eyeglasses. For some reason, I found people wearing glasses cool. I was a total bookworm; so I thought it won’t be long until my vision faltered. Teenage years turned to adult years, and still my vision was 20/20.
However, this changed two days ago. I finally said goodbye to my 20/20 vision, and said hello to my new glasses. Now that I have one, it isn’t so cool after all. Wearing glasses is kind of inconvenient.
Anyway, since I’ll be wearing glasses all the time, I thought it would be a good time to research how makeup should complement glasses. I can’t get away from wearing frames, so I might as well have fun doing it.
1. Conceal! Conceal! Conceal!
I’ve always thought that glasses will cover up my dark circles. But boy was I wrong. Wearing glasses will actually magnify them. So it is very important to pay more attention in concealing those dark under eye circles.
2. Consider your type of eyeglasses.
If you’re near sighted, your eyes will actually look smaller under the frames. The reverse is true if you’re far sighted. To make your eyes look bigger, use a brighter or light colored eye shadow. Adding a dark liner on your upper lashes will also help highlight your eyes.
3. Less is better.
I thought that when wearing eyeglasses, I have to apply more eye shadow and eyeliner. But this is another misconception. Glasses will actually highlight your eye makeup even more. So the general rule is less is more.
4. Avoid glitters.
I don’t usually wear glitters except when there’s a special occasion or when I’m feeling bold. But girls who wear glasses should stay away from glittery or frosty eye shadow. This shimmering makeup will actually clash with the reflective nature of the lenses. So it’s better to stick with matte makeup.
5. Go easy on the mascara.
Wearing thick lengthening mascara has the tendency to smudge your lenses. So opt for a volumizing mascara instead. Make sure to curl your lashes all the way up, so it doesn’t clash with your glasses.
6. Keep your brows pretty.
Don’t forget to keep your brows neat and well shaped. Use a brow pencil to accentuate them. I have really thin brows so I’ve already formed a habit of using brow pencil. This is a very important step since your eyebrows are the ones framing your glasses. Make sure to keep them balanced.
I’m still getting used to wearing glasses, but I feel a lot better knowing these tips can help me make the most out of this new experience.
What do you think, ladies? Do you still wear makeup when you started wearing glasses? Can you share some tips that work well for you?

I srtated to wear contacts when I turned 24, but for 20 (LONG) years I wore glasses. I often times tried to hide them at school or at home b/c it wasnt ‘cool’ to wear them. My very first pair took the cake though hot pink plastic frames with hearts on each from corner. The hearts were complete with arrows seemingly shot through them.Awesome.I think Ill stick to contacts for now.
Wow! 20 years! That’s a really long time. It’s good that you’re used to wearing contacts. I tried wearing them once, and it was terrible.hehe Thanks for dropping by!
