The color RED often represents passion and love. When it comes to makeup, red defines class and elegance. If you may notice, a lot of celebrities always go for the classic makeup with red lipstick during red carpet events. So why don’t you go for the same look this coming Valentine’s?

I know a lot of ladies may be quite intimidated by fiery red lips. I used to be one of them. I’ve always admired other women who wear red lipstick, but I feel like I could never pull it off. But last year, I finally got rid of my ridiculous fear, and tried it for myself. Since then, I have been occasionally sporting red lips.

What’s great about red lipstick is that it can instantly brighten up your face. It magically adds a glamorous effect even if you’re not all dolled up.

So if you’re going out for a date this Valentine’s or for a party, go ahead and try wearing red, bold lips.

How to Find the Right Red Lipstick

I honestly think you can never go wrong with any shade of red lipstick. When you have the right outfit and eye makeup, any shade of red lipstick will work for you. But if you want to find the perfect shade, the best thing to do is to try different shades of red.

Or you can watch Michelle Phan’s great video on how to choose the right red lipstick based on your skin tone:

What works for me is a matte deep red lipstick. I’m currently using Ever Bilena. It’s cheap, but it works well.  I was in a hurry when I bought it (it was Christmas shopping season), so I didn’t have the time to try different shades. I just asked the sales lady what was their dark red matte lipstick. I’ve been using the same lipstick since December of last year.

Quick Tips on How to Have Long Lasting Red Lips

In order to red lips that last all day, you need the following:

  • face powder
  • red lip liner
  • red lipstick
  • tissue

Yes, the face powder is for your lips. It will serve as a primer making the red lipstick stay longer.

Before applying lipstick, it is very important to use a lip liner. It would work best if the lip liner has the same shade with your lipstick. But any red lip liner will do. The lip liner not only provides your lips with a perfect shape, it also prevents color bleeding.

Lastly, use a tissue to blot your lips. Or you can hold the tissue in between your lips. This removes any excess lipstick, and even out the color.

I highly recommend sporting a red lipstick this Valentine’s Day or any other day. It’s a classic look that never gets out of style.
